First off, get it in your head that there is no “easy button” to being a wealthy internet entrepreneur. Sit back for a moment and think about this statement. If it were that easy, wouldn’t everyone you know be successful and wealthy? It’s not easy and frankly, if you ask those who are those successful “5 year overnight success stories”, they will tell you it took them 5 years of hard work, learning, growing, being mentored and understanding that it will take, no matter what, hard work. Very rarely was anyone an overnight success. In fact, I struggle to come up with even 1 person who was an overnight success.
Second, you’re not going to be able to sit behind your computer and become a wealthy online entrepreneur. Contrary to the belief you can bang away on your keyboard and make magical dollars appear, you are going to have to get up out of your chair and go talk to some real humans face to face, shake some hands, and share some pints. People like to do business with people. This is deep within your programming as a human.
Lastly, you are going to need to invest in yourself and your own education and social meetings. I did just that last weekend out in Las Vegas where I attended a business conference to rub elbows with other internet entrepreneurs and make some connections. Was this cheap? Nope. Was it worth it? Absolutely. You have to resolve that anything worth pursuing is going to take your time and resources to make it happen. You have to get, well, “all in” as the saying goes.
I sat in on a really solid talk from a wealth online entrepreneur, Ray Higdon, while at the business conference. Some of you may know Ray or have purchased some of his online training materials. He is a solid guy who got after it and went all in after a series of business and real estate failures. He is one of the most consistent bloggers out there and he offered up some great insights and tips as to what he does to create content on a daily basis. And you know what happens because he is all in and consistent? Dollars. Lifestyle living. Prospering. From being simply consistent and diligent in what he does.
Before I get into the tips, one thing he said that stuck with me… yes, I took notes… “Any kind of breakdown happens before a breakthrough…” And I completely agree. There are some of you reading this who feel stuck, ready to just give up and throw in the proverbial towel. I have 3 words for you: wait it out – tomorrow will likely be better, if you get with it.
So there were some great tips Ray shared. The first being his 3 step process:
- Invest – spend time and money to… learn
- Learn – take notes about what you learn and … teach
- Teach – teach others about what you have learned by spending the time and money to get out and meet people and attend conferences. However, this is where most people simply fall off…
When you go to conferences or meet with people and take notes, you will everything you need to create content for your online blog. And in the process you are improving yourself and discovering how to succeed by helping others. You are investing, learning and teaching simply by getting out of your chair and off your computer. The teaching part is the crucial piece and flows over into using your blog as a way to teach others. By doing this you are building your very own online brand, just as Ray has done.
The last tips Ray shared were how he structures every blog post he writes:
- Introduction – Hi, I’m _____. Today I’m going to be talking about _____, so stick around and I’ll show you how.
- Benefit – Usually asks a question like What would you like to ______? or a How to do ______.
- Content – writes his content by taking notes on what he has learned from books, podcasts, mentors, conferences, etc
- Call to action – Always have this – what do you want the reader to do? Watch a video, subscribe to an email list, purchase a product?
Overall, Las Vegas was a great investment of my time and money. I took a whole notepad of notes. Yes, the old fashioned way. I didn’t want to have my nose in a computer and it forces me to go back and read them again and transcribe them into a Word doc so I can save them for reviewing later.
So there you have it, How to create content for your online blog and a host of other gold nuggets to get you on your way to online success.
